FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Devin King set a school record for the Southeastern Louisiana track team in the pole vault (18 feet, 4.7 inches, 5.63m) at the Tyson Invitational Indoor Track Meet Friday and Saturday at the Tyson Track Center.
The event featured several schools from power-five conferences including Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, LSU, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Northwestern (Ill.), Oklahoma and USC.
King, a senior from Kentwood, Louisiana, finished second at the Bayou Bengal Invitational in the pole vault behind LSU's Mondo Duplantis (National Record Holder in the pole vault) and eyes his fourth straight trip to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
The Lions held their own against the stacked field as
Donovan Storr (400m) and
D.J. Ruffin (long jump) set personal bests.
Ruffin, a senior from Gautier, Mississippi, finished third in the long jump setting a personal best of 25-0.6 (7.64m)
Klotz won the pole vault event finishing with a vault of 16 feet, nine inches (5.18m) while Storr had personal bests in the 200 (21.47) and 400m (48.03).
"The group was very solid this weekend," said second-year SLU track head coach
Corey Mistretta. "I'm super excited about Devin besting another school record. Donovan continues to improve and show that he is going to be a factor in Birmingham with two more personal bests this weekend, his confidence is very high. DJ Ruffin jumped another personal best in the long jump and is coming along very well. We are very excited about where he is with the conference championships looming."
SLU's next full squad meet is Friday, Feb. 15 at the LSU Twilight in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
