HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team returns home to Strawberry Stadium this weekend to face the University of Central Arkansas on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Northwestern State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final home stand of the season.
Â
Friday is Senior Night as Southeastern will honor seniors
Caroline Lee and
Amber Marinero prior to the match.
Â
"Caroline and Amber have been great student-athletes for our program," said third-year SLU soccer head coach Chris McBride. "They are two players who stuck through the coaching change after their first year and really bought into everything that we do here. They sacrificed a lot to be here with us and we are extremely grateful for the four years they have given us."Â
Â
The Lady Lions (3-11-1, 2-6-0) enter Friday's match with UCA just one game back of the eighth and final spot in the Southland Conference Tournament with just three games to go.
Â
"We are taking it one game at a time," said McBride. "And Friday is the most important game for us right now. It's another conference game at home and most importantly I hope we honor our seniors with a fantastic performance."
Â
SLU is coming off a thrilling come-from-behind win over Stephen F. Austin Sunday, 2-1. The Lady Lions scored two unanswered goals in the second half capped off by
Ellie Williams' game winning goal in the 77
th minute.
Â
The Bears (3-11-1, 2-6-0) are riding high as well coming into the weekend after earning a pair of shutout wins last week over Houston Baptist and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Â
"UCA has a quality team," said McBride. "Their recent results reflect how good they can be and I think that it is going to be a great game on Friday,"
Â
Following Friday's match, the Lady Lions will take on the Lady Demons (8-7-1, 5-2-1 Southland) Sunday afternoon. NSU split home games last week falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 1-0, and beating Houston Baptist, 3-1.
Â
Despite NSU defeating SLU last year in Natchitoches, Louisiana, the Lady Lions lead the all-time series 22-12-2 and are 12-2-2 all-time at home against NSU.
Â
The Southeastern Sports Network will offer a free video stream of both matches. Tune in online at
www.LionSports.net or the Lions' Gameday Experience app for Android or iOS devices. Fans can also watch on Southeastern's YouTube channel (/SLUathletics) with any mobile, tablet or smart TV device (e.g., Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Android TV and Roku).
