Conference-Leader SFA Holds Off Scrappy Lady Lions

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Southland Conference-leading Stephen F. Austin fought off a scrappy Southeastern Louisiana volleyball squad Saturday for a three-set conference victory, 27-25, 25-17, 25-15, at Shelton Gym.

The Ladyjacks (20-1, 8-0 Southland), who have not dropped a single set in conference action this season, nearly succumbed to a resurgent Southeastern (10-12, 4-4 Southland) in the opening set. The Lady Lions led 24-19, scoring the most points against SFA by any conference team in 2019, before a five-point rally tied the contest.

SFA scored eight of the final nine points to claim the initial set. The Lady Lions rallied to tie the second set, 12-12, before the momentum swung back in the other direction for the remainder of the match.

Karlee Wilkerson, a sophomore from Springfield, Louisiana, and Caroline Golden led Southeastern with 11 kills apiece. Jolie Hidalgo, a freshman from Lafayette, Louisiana, added nine more to the offensive attack.

Baylee Laskoskie dished out 36 assists to aid the Lady Lions' efforts. Golden served up three aces.

Jodi Edo had a hand in three of the Lady Lions' four team blocks, including a pair of solo blocks. The senior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana now ranks second in the Southland with 20 solos this season and her 74 total blocks, double her previous high, ranks fourth.

Lizzy Low, also a freshman from Lafayette, led Southeastern with a career-high 21 digs, topping her previous best, set in Thursday's win at Abilene Christian, by five. Hidalgo also reached double figures in digs, contributing 11 for the Lady Lions.
