Raygadas Among Conference-Level Honorees for NCAA Woman of the Year

Former Lion one of 154 candidates among the NCAA's three divisions

8/16/2018 5:26:00 PM

HAMMOND, La. – Former Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis student-athlete Dany Raygadas is among those student-athletes listed as conference level honorees for the 2018 NCAA Women of the Year, the NCAA announced on Thursday.

A total of 581 student-athletes across all three divisions were nominated for the prestigious honor. From there, each conference designated an honoree from one of their member institutions.

Raygadas is the representative from the Southland Conference and is one of 154 conference-level honorees. Next, conference-level nominations will be forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee, which will choose the top 10 honorees in each of the three NCAA divisions. The NCAA will announce the Top 30 honorees on ncaa.org in early September.

From among those 30 candidates, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee then determines the top three finalists in each division. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year from the nine finalists. More information about the award, selection process and previous winners is available at ncaa.org/woty.

2018 marks the 28th year of the NCAA Woman of the Year program. The four pillars of the NCAA Woman of the Year award are academics, athletics, service and leadership.

In June, Raygadas became the 18th student-athlete in school history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. The Queretaro, Mexico native was named as a third team selection. The two-time Southland All-Academic performer graduated in May with a 4.0 grade point average in computer science.

Raygadas was one of three Southeastern student-athletes, along with teammate Madina Vorotnikova and Elizabeth Hunter of women's soccer, to receive the university's highest academic honor – the President's Medal for Academic Excellence – at commencement exercises in May.

On the court, Raygadas was an All-Southland Conference selection in doubles as a sophomore with former teammate Margaux Kaltenbacher. She was also a member of the Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
