No. 28-Ranked Lions Host HBU in Southland Series

HAMMOND, La. – No. 28-ranked Southeastern Louisiana returns home following a six-game road trip, hosting HBU in a Southland Conference series this weekend at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
 
Southeastern (16-8, 5-1 Southland) matches up against the Huskies (8-13, 2-1 Southland) Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. The series finale is Sundae Funday and another Local Hero Appreciation Day.
 
The first 75 fans through the gates Sunday will receive free ice cream.
 
Every Sunday home game throughout the 2018 season, the Lions give thanks to our first responders, service members and military personnel with a discounted ticket available at the ticket booth (must have a valid service ID).
 
All three games can game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, and worldwide online or through either the Radio FX or TuneIn apps. Fans can also keep up with all the action through streaming video, live statistics or by following @SLUathletics on Twitter.

Friday at 6 p.m., the Lions will send senior right-hander Josh Green (3-1, 4.23) to the mound opposite HBU junior righty Zach Carter (0-2, 2.18).

Redshirt junior right-hander Carlisle Koestler (4-0, 1.16) gets the starting nod Saturday at 2 p.m. versus Huskie senior left-hander Matthew McCullough (1-1, 3.16).
 
Sunday, Lion redshirt junior righty Kade Granier (1-2, 4.60) opposes HBU junior right-hander Brady Batten (2-2, 3.07) at 1 p.m.

Cody Grosse (.347), Drew Avans (.316), Mike Taylor (.315) and Daniel Wasinger (.308) pace Southeastern's offensive attack. Bryce Steckler, a junior from Redmond, Washington, ranks seventh nationally with three triples. Avans leads the team with four home runs and 21 RBI. Grosse ranks 11th nationally with 12 stolen bases.
 
The Lions are hitting .262 collectively, with 40 doubles, six triples and 13 home runs. Their 68 stolen bases lead the nation. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 3.56 ERA. They have struck out 184 batters through 214.2 innings of work and issued the fifth-fewest walks per game (2.64) in the nation. Opponents are hitting .236 off Lion pitching.
 
Southeastern has dropped back-to-back games following a five-game win streak. HBU dropped a 3-2 decision Tuesday against Texas Southern after taking 2-of-3 three over the weekend against Nicholls.
 
Spencer Halloran (.298), Jonathan Ducoff (.288) and Anthony Jones (.281) are the Huskies' top hitters. Halloran leads the club with four home runs and seven stolen bases, while Jake Pulcheon owns a team-high 14 RBI.
 
HBU is hitting .227 as a team, with 20 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs and 23 stolen bases. Huskie pitchers have combined for a 3.91 ERA, striking out 138 batters in 184 innings. Opponents are hitting .279 of HBU pitching this season.
 
The Huskies swept Southeastern in a three-game series last season in Houston, but the Lions lead the all-time series, 8-5.
 
Southeastern wraps up the homestand Tuesday at 6 p.m. with Fireworks at the Pat against Tulane. The game is also a Cane's Challenge and Faculty / Staff Appreciation Night. Southeastern faculty and staff can purchase discounted tickets to the game by contacting the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office.

Single game tickets for Lion home games can be purchased online at www.LionSports.net/Tickets or by contacting the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466. 
 
General Admission tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for children (ages 3-12). Tax is included in the price of admission. Southeastern students are admitted free with a valid university ID card.

Students, campus organizations and fans can earn points toward their Lion Up Loyalty account at any home game by checking in on the mobile app while in attendance.
