3/2/2018 7:34:00 PM

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana senior Devin King smashed the Southeastern Track Complex pole vault record at the outdoor season-opening Tulane Early Bird Twilight Friday afternoon.

King cleared a regional qualifying height of 18 feet, 8.25 inches, breaking his own record of 17-10.5 set at the 2016 Lion Invitational. He also tied his school record established at the 2016 Texas Relays. He missed on three attempts at 19-0.25.

King's victory was one of eight captured by the Lions and Lady Lions in the meet, which was moved to the Complex because of a scheduling conflict at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans.

"We did well," Southeastern head coach Corey Mistretta said. "We had a real small group out there but the ones who were out there did pretty well. Overall, it was just really encouraging to see what we did today."

Sophomore Justin Taylor set a personal record in winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.63. Junior Brian Donna was second in 14.93 and sophomore Greysan Moehrs fifth in 15.90.

Sophomore Gerald Coleman also ran a career best in taking the 400-meter hurdles in 54.67.

Junior Jebarri Cumberbatch picked up a pair of victories, capturing the 100 in 10.70 and the 300 in 34.66.

The 4x400-meter relay of Coleman, Taylor, freshman Tahrike Jones and senior Albert Martinez finished first in 3:21.45.

Junior Michael Seither won the hammer with a throw of 175-2 while sophomore Alex Bertrand took the javelin at 169-11. Freshman Evan Landry was second in the javelin with a mark of 169-2.

Freshman Adam Pennington (14-7.25) and senior Brandon Hollier (14-1.25) followed King in the pole vault.

Donna had a busy day in his first outdoor meet as a Lion, adding a pair of third places in the shot put (38-5) and high jump (5-5) and a fifth in the long jump (21-2.75).

Jones finished fourth in the 300 in 35.20.

Freshman Charlotte Wissing, in her first collegiate meet, threw a potential regional qualifying mark of 150-10 to win the javelin.

Sophomore Vigdis Jonsdottir also had a potential regional qualifying throw in picking up a win in the women's hammer at 196-5. Senior Natalia Redondo was third at 178-9.

Freshman Sophia Huegel finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.79 while freshman Jacquelyn Walker placed second in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.89.

Freshman Katherine Strahan came in second in the long jump (17-4). She was also third in the 100 hurdles (16.05).

Freshman Taylor Mumford was second in the 100 in 12.16 with junior Dekayta Alex third in 12.36. Alex later took second in the 300 in 38.86 with Mumford fourth in 40.93. Both of Mumford's times were personal bests.

Southeastern will next compete in the McNeese Bob Hayes Invitational in Lake Charles next Saturday.
