Lady Lions’ McBride Familiar With South Alabama

    HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana head coach Chris McBride will visit his former school when the Lady Lions travel to South Alabama Thursday for a non-conference match at 7 p.m. at The Cage in Mobile, Ala.

    McBride was an assistant coach at South Alabama in 2016, helping the Jaguars capture their fourth straight Sun Belt Conference Tournament title.

    Southeastern (2-3) snapped a three-match losing streak with a 1-0 win over Southern University in Strawberry Stadium on Sunday. Sophomore forward Amber Marinero scored off a pass from freshman midfielder Megan Gordon in the fourth minute for the match's lone goal. Freshman goalkeeper Michaela Hawthorn recorded eight saves.

    South Alabama (1-4) gave Richard Moodie his first victory as head coach of the Jaguars with a 3-1 win over Jacksonville State on Sunday. Rio Hardy scored twice and Tiina Trutsi added a goal and an assist. Justice Stanford had a pair of saves.

GAME NOTES
   Southeastern:
   Southeastern has not allowed a goal from the field in 221 minutes. The only goals the Lady Lions have allowed in that span have been on penalty kicks.
  
   Marinero (Offense), Gordon (Defense) and Hawthorn (Goalkeeper) all received honorable mention Player of the Week recognition by the Southland Conference on Tuesday.
 
   Junior midfielder Maggie Ramsey leads the Southland in shots (20) and shots per game (4.00) while tying for seventh with two goals.
 
   Ramsey, with 147 career shots, needs two more to tie Janae Sheldon (2005-08) for ninth on the Southeastern list. Ramsey, currently with 19 career goals, needs three more to move into the Lady Lions' top 10.
 
   Gordon, junior defender Sofia Olsson, freshman midfielder Larissa Galvez Estrada, freshman forward Jessi Cooper and freshman defender Tilly Hallas-Potts are tied for eighth in the conference with an assist apiece.
 
   Hawthorn is the Southland leader and ranks 26th nationally with 32 saves. She is also second in the league and 29th in the country in saves per match (6.40). She is tied for second in the conference in shutouts (2), fourth in save percentage (.821) and sixth in goals against average (1.37).
 
   Southeastern ranks 18th nationally with 9.0 shots on goal per game.
 
   The Lady Lions are tied for the Southland lead with 32 saves while ranking tied for third in shutouts (2), fourth in shots (81), fifth in goals against average (1.37) and corners (22), tied for fifth in goals (6) and tied for seventh in goals allowed (7).
 
   Southeastern is 1-5-1 all-time versus South Alabama. The teams played to a 1-1 tie in Hammond in their last meeting in 2007. The Lady Lions took a 1-0 win in Mobile in 2006 after the Jaguars had won the first five matches in the series.
 
   Thursday's match will be the third of four against Sun Belt Conference opponents for Southeastern in 2017. The Lady Lions lost at Georgia State and at home against Louisiana-Lafayette and will host Louisiana Monroe on Sunday.
 
South Alabama:
   Trutsi was named the Sun Belt Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist in two matches.
 
   Trutsi has scored in three straight matches. She leads the Jaguars with three goals and seven points with all three of her goals coming on penalty kicks.
 
   Hardy has two goals and Chelsea Followwell one.
 
   Stanford has made 15 saves and allowed 10 goals for a 2.00 goals against average.
 
   South Alabama has scored four of its six goals on penalty kicks. The Jaguars are 4-for-4 on PKs.
 
   Two of South Alabama's losses have come to ranked teams on the road. The Jaguars opened the season with a 3-0 loss at No. 10 Auburn before falling at No. 15 Florida State, 2-1. South Alabama has also lost 2-1 at home to both Murray State and Alabama.
 
   South Alabama returns 13 letterwinners and six starters from last season's 15-6-1 squad. The Jaguars advanced to the NCAA Tournament before losing at Auburn in the opening round.
 
   South Alabama has added 10 newcomers this season.

   "We've been working on some stuff for ourselves again. We've been looking at areas of the game we need to improve on based on some performances we've had already. That's the main focus right now, to be focusing on ourselves and making sure we are prepared as we can for when the conference schedule comes."
