Lions, Tigers Square Off in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southeastern Louisiana kicks off a four-game road trip with a non-conference contest Wednesday at No. 4-ranked LSU. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium on SEC Network+.

Southeastern (14-5) took 2-of-3 games from Lamar over the weekend, but had its 10-game winning streak snapped Sunday by the Cardinals. LSU (16-5) swept a three-game Southeastern Conference series from Georgia over the weekend after dropping a non-conference game to Southland foe New Orleans earlier in the week.
 
Taylor Schwaner (.362), Drew Avans (.333), Derrick Mount (.296) and Carson Crites (.282) lead Southeastern at the plate. Schwaner owns a team-best five home runs and Southland Conference-leading 30 RBIs. Avans has a team-high nine stolen bases.
 
The Lions are hitting .252 as a team, with 29 doubles, seven triples, 12 home runs and rank seventh nationally with 42 stolen bases. Southeastern's pitching staff enters the game with a 3.89 ERA, having fanned 144 batters through 169 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .243 off Lion pitching.
 
Wednesday, Southeastern will send sophomore right-hander Carlisle Koestler (1-1, 3.00) to the mound opposite LSU freshman righty Zack Hess (2-0, 3.26).
 
Tiger pitching has a compiled a 3.24 ERA this season, fanning 199 batters in 188.2 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .216 off the staff. LSU is hitting .318 as a team, with 39 doubles, five triples, 17 home runs and 28 stolen bases.
 
Cole Freeman (.400), Kramer Robertson (.388), Antoine Duplantis (.375) and Greg Deichmann (.351) lead the Tigers at the plate. Deichmann has hit a team-best seven home runs and is tied with Duplantis for the team lead in RBIs (28). Freeman has stolen a team-high nine bases.
 
Following the game, Southeastern travels to Houston, Texas, this weekend for a three-game Southland Conference series at Houston Baptist.
