BATON ROUGE, La. – Southeastern Louisiana remained undefeated with a 4-2 non-conference road victory over Southern in women's tennis action Thursday afternoon at University Courts.
Southeastern (3-0) shook off dropping the doubles point, rallying with four singles victories. Southern fell to 0-4 overall this spring.
"We really challenged ourselves to come back after losing the doubles point and our players responded," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said. "Every match was tightly-contested and our girls played hard and fought all day."
In doubles play, juniors
Fleur Holtkamp and
Dalina Dahlmans improved to 3-0 at No. 1 doubles with a 6-4 victory over the Southern pair of Stephanie Mbaya and Tanaka Chakanyuka. On the other two doubles courts, Southern picked up wins to take a 1-0 lead.
Southeastern rallied with four wins in singles play. On No. 1, junior
Dany Raygadas (2-1) handled Mbaya, 6-3, 6-2. Holtkamp (3-0) remained undefeated in singles play with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Darnesha Moore, on the No. 2 court.
SLU junior
Madina Vorotnikova (2-0) also remained unbeaten this spring with a 7-6 (12-10), 6-2 victory over Nicki Neal on the No. 5 singles court. On No. 6, junior
Natalie Duran (2-1) was too much for Mia Kent in a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set triumph.
Southeastern will return to action on Friday, traveling to Mobile for a 2:30 match at South Alabama.
