HAMMOND, La. – A trio of Southeastern Louisiana legends make up the 2016 Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame Class, SLU announced on Wednesday.
The newest Hall of Fame members are Jacques Chevallier (golf), Kenny Lehrmann (baseball) and the late Calvin Favron (football). The induction of the 2016 class will bring the total of Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame inductees to 138.
Chevallier, Lehrmann and Favron will be inducted on Oct. 29. After the induction ceremony earlier in the day, the three new inductees will be recognized at halftime of that evening's SLU-Central Arkansas Southland Conference contest.
Chevallier, a native of Brest, France, is the third Southeastern golfer to be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame, joining Andy Smith (2010) and Martin du Toit (2007). Chevallier played for the Lions from 1997-2001, helping SLU to Southland Conference championships in 1998 and 2000.
During his career, he was a three-time All-Southland Conference selection and posted a 73.22 stroke average – the third-lowest in school history. He was named the 2000 Southland Conference Golfer of the Year, the 2000 LSWA Co-Golfer of the Year and was named the 1999-00 Southeastern Male Athlete of the Year.
Ranked as high as 52
nd in the national GolfStat rankings, Chevallier was the 1998 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and was part of a Southeastern squad that finished 23
rd nationally at the 1998 NCAA Championships.
Lehrmann's induction brings the total of baseball SLU Athletics Hall of Fame inductees to 17. He is the first former baseball student-athlete to be inducted into the Hall of Fame since Wade Miley in 2014.
Lehrmann pitched for the Lions from 1976-78 and still holds the school's career record with 25 wins. He led SLU in strikeouts in each of his three seasons and ranks ninth in school history with 230 career strikeouts. An ABCA All-Region selection in 1978, he posted a 10-3 record and helped the Lions to the 1978 Gulf South Conference crown.
A two-time All-GSC first team selection, Lehrmann led Southeastern with seven wins in 1977 and posted a team-low 1.99 earned run average in 1976.
Favron is the 57
th former Lion football player to be named to the Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame. The White Castle, Louisiana native is the first former SLU gridiron standout to be inducted since Felton Huggins in 2013.
Following a successful four-year career in Hammond, Favron was drafted 46
th overall in the second round of the NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1979. Favron's selection still marks the highest a Lion has ever been selected in the NFL Draft.
Favron had a breakout season as a senior, earning first-team All-Gulf South Conference honors. Second on the team with 58 tackles (10 for loss), Favron was a key member of a SLU defense that finished ranked nationally in scoring defense (1
st, 7.1 ppg), total defense (2
nd, 181.3 ypg), pass defense (10
th, 93.5 ypg) and rushing defense (5
th, 88.7 ypg).
Favron followed his Lion career by playing four seasons with the Cardinals from 1979-82. He played in 50 games, making 21 starts. Favron passed away in 1999.
Inductees to the Southeastern Louisiana Athletics Hall of Fame, which has been honoring former Lion student-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff, are voted on by a selection committee. To nominate members for future induction, send nominations to SLU Director of Sports Information
Kemmler Chapple, SLU 10309, Hammond, LA 70402.
