Lions Grind Out 2-1 Win at Lamar for Series Sweep

Southeastern extends winning streak to seven

BEAUMONT, Texas – Jameson Fisher and Carson Crites smacked back-to-back doubles leading off the eighth inning, while Domenick Carlini and Josh Green combined to shut down the Lamar bats Sunday in Southeastern Louisiana's 2-1, Southland Conference win at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

Southeastern (35-13, 21-3 Southland) completed the series sweep of Lamar (31-15, 16-8 Southland), extending its winning streak to seven-consecutive games overall and 21 straight conference series.

The Lions scored first Sunday, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Right fielder Webb Bobo knocked a one-out single through the left side. After stealing second base, Bobo scored on Jacob Seward's two-out single to center field.

The Cardinals tied the game up with an unearned run in the third.

Designated hitter Ryan Erickson reach on a fielding error by Lion shortstop Brennan Breaud to lead off the inning. After a pair of singles loaded the bases, Erickson scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of cleanup batter Reid Russell.

Carlini was locked in a duel with Lamar pitchers Jimmy Johnson and Travis Moore all game, setting the scene for the pair of eighth inning doubles.

Southeastern had a chance in the sixth to break the game open. Johnson, tiring, walked three straight batters to load the bases with one out, but Moore fanned back-to-back batters, both looking, to end the Lion threat.

Green had a chance to return the favor in the eighth, inheriting a two-out, two-on situation, the sophomore right-hander induced a ground ball to third base to end the inning. He fanned a pair in the ninth, retiring the side in order, to earn his second save of the series.

Carlini (6-1), who allowed one unearned run in 7.2 innings, earned the win. The senior left-hander scattered six hits and a pair of walks, fanning six. Moore, who recorded four strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief work, was tagged with the loss. The left-hander allowed one run, surrendering one hit and one walk.

Fisher (2-for-4) and Ryan Byers (2-for-5) enjoyed multi-hit performances for the Lions.
