Big 10th Inning Propels UNO to Wild Win Over Lions

HAMMOND, La. – An explosive New Orleans Privateer team scored six runs in the 10th inning Friday, defeating Southeastern Louisiana, 15-9, in Southland Conference action at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Twice Southeastern (35-14, 21-4 Southland) rallied from a four-run deficit, tying the Privateers (29-19, 13-12 Southland), 5-5, in the third inning and, 9-9, in the seventh. The win by UNO snaps the Lions' 13-game winning streak in the series.

Left fielder Drew Avans capped the first Southeastern rally with a solo home run to right-center field, smacking his third of the season to lead off the third.

The Privateers responded with a grand slam off the bat of designated hitter Hezekiah Randolph in the fourth, putting Southeastern down, 9-5.

First baseman Jameson Fisher helped pull the Lions within one in the sixth when UNO reliever Jarred Taylor, who was attempting to intentionally walk Fisher, left a pitch over the middle of the plate. Fisher ripped the ball through the right side to score Brennan Breaud.

Catcher Sam Roberson knocked a two-out double in the seventh, driving in Webb Bobo from second, to tie the game once again.

Reliever Josh Green (0-2) retired six of the first seven batters he faced after entering the game in the eighth, but the Privateers, who had been held off the scoreboard for five straight innings, reached the sophomore for six runs (four earned) in the final frame.

Green was tagged with the loss, while Daniel Martinez (4-3) picked up the win after having surrendered the game-tying run back in the seventh. Martinez scattered one run on four hits and one walk in four innings of work.

Fisher (3-for-5) led the Lions at the plate, driving in a pair. Avans (2-for-4), Derrick Mount (2-for-4), Roberson (2-for-4) and Jacob Seward (2-for-4) also enjoyed multi-hit performances. Avans and Breaud both drove in a pair.

Randolph paced the UNO offense, going 4-for-6 at the plate and driving in five. Former Lion Kyle Bracey was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the first, for the Privateers.

The series continues at 2 p.m. Saturday as Southeastern looks to prevent UNO from claiming the Pontchatrain Bowl trophy for the first time.

Saturday the Lions will send sophomore right-hander Mac Sceroler (9-2, 2.09) to the mound opposite UNO junior lefty Hunter Medine (3-0, 4.46) at Maestri Field at First NBC Ballpark in New Orleans, Louisiana.
