UNO Takes Series with 10-3 Win on the Lakefront

Home finale, Senior Day on Sunday

NEW ORLEANS, La. – UNO scored five runs in the eighth inning Saturday, pulling away from Southeastern Louisiana for a 10-3 win in Southland Conference action at Maestri Field at First NBC Ballpark.

The Privateers (30-19, 14-2 Southland) won their second straight over Southeastern (35-15, 21-5 Southland), taking the first two games in the weekend series.

Southeastern took an early lead, picking up a run in the first inning.

Shortstop Brennan Breaud, a freshman from Norco, Louisiana, drew a walk to open up the game. After stealing second base, he scored on Jameson Fisher's one-out, RBI single to center field.

UNO immediately answered, tying the game in the bottom of the first. The Privateers tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth, taking a 3-1 lead.

Southeastern responded with a pair of its own in the fifth, tying the game.

Breaud and right fielder Ryan Byers, a junior from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, knocked back-to-back singles to open the inning, Breaud advancing to third on Byers' hit.

After Byers stole second, UNO starting pitcher Hunter Medine uncorked a wild pitch. Breaud scored and the throw back to the plate by Privateer catcher Kyle Bracey sailed down the third-base-line, allowing Byers to trot home with the tying run.

At first opportunity, UNO again responded. The Privateers regained the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly and then tacked on another run in the sixth.

The Lions had a couple of opportunities to tie the game, stranding a pair in the seventh and leaving the bases loaded in the eighth, before UNO blew the game open late.

Reliever Jordan Priddle (2-3) earned the win, allowing just one hit in 4.2 scoreless innings of relief. The left-hander walked one and fanned four. Mac Sceroler (9-3) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings of work. He fanned four and walked a pair.

Fisher (2-for-4) led the Lions at the plate, driving in one.

UNO pounded out 15-plus hits for the second straight game, led by Dakota Dean (3-for-5) and Aaron Palmer (3-for-4).

The series loss is the first for Southeastern in its last 22 Southland Conference series.

Senior lefty Domenick Carlini (6-1, 1.81) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale. The Privateers have not announced a starting pitcher for the contest.

Prior to the game, Southeastern will recognize the senior class of Domenick Carlini, Pat Cashman Kyle Cedotal, Chris Eades, Daniel Midyett, Sam Roberson and Gabe Von Rosenberg in a special Senior Day ceremony.
