HAMMOND, La. – Enduring a 5 hour, 43 minute rain delay, sophomore
Mac Sceroler combined with
Derrick Mount to throw the 16th one-hitter in Southeastern Louisiana history, setting the tone in the Lions' doubleheader sweep of Houston Baptist late Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
As the right-handers locked down Houston Baptist (19-23, 9-12 Southland), Southeastern (30-13, 18-3 Southland) smacked three home runs on its way to an 18-2 win in the first game. The Lions kept the offensive pressure on in the nightcap, sweeping the doubleheader with a 13-3 win in seven innings.
Delayed after the first inning by lightning, and later rain, the opening game of the doubleheader resumed at 6 p.m. Both starting pitchers returned with Sceroler (8-2) looking just as sharp as he did at noon.
The native of Denham Springs, Louisiana, carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, surrendering the Huskies' only hit to shortstop Louie Payetta with one out. A left-handed hitter, Payetta snuck a double inside the third-base line.
Sceroler allowed one run, walking five and fanning nine, on the way to earning his seventh straight win. Junior
Derrick Mount worked the final 1.1 innings, allowing an unearned run in the ninth.
In the nightcap, outfielders
Drew Avans and
Webb Bobo smacked back-to-back home runs in the third inning.
Southeastern swept a three-game conference series for the fourth time this season, claiming its 20th-consecutive series from a Southland opponent.
The Lions wrap up their four-game homestand Wednesday, hosting Jackson State at 6 p.m. with a pair of promotions: Study Pack the Pat and Popcorn at the Pat. More information on gameday promotions, along with a promotions schedule, can be found at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern left little doubt in the second game that the offensive onslaught would continue, scoring seven runs over the course of the first three innings.

Domenick Carlini (5-1) to a comfortable lead.
