JACKSON, Miss. – Southeastern Louisiana outlasted Jackson State, 12-8, Tuesday at Robert "Bob" Braddy, Sr. Field, picking up its ninth straight win.
The Lions (15-6) scored first, pushing across a pair of runs in the second.
Left fielder
Webb Bobo drew a walk from Tiger starting pitcher Miguel Yrigoyen (0-1) to lead off the inning. Bobo eventually stole second base and then advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Catcher
Sam Roberson drove in Bobo with a two-out RBI single to center field and Roberson scored on
Taylor Schwaner's RBI triple to right.
Jackson State (9-10) cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning.
Center fielder Tony Holton singled up the middle leading off the inning and then stole second. He scored on a two-out RBI single by third baseman Lakon Wilson.
The Tigers took the lead, 3-2, with a pair of runs in the third.
Shortstop Cornelius Copeland led off the inning with a single up the middle and then stole second. He scored on a one-out RBI double to center by catcher Carlos Diaz. Diaz scored as first baseman Jesus Santana followed with an RBI double to right.
Southeastern grabbed the lead right back, 6-3, with a four-run fourth inning.
Yrigoyen hit second baseman
Carson Crites with a pitch to open the inning. Roberson followed with a double, putting a pair of runners in scoring position. Schwaner doubled in Crites, chasing Yrigoyen from the game.
Jacob Seward greeted reliever Vincent Anthonia with an RBI groundout. With two outs,
Jameson Fisher and
Daniel Midyett ripped back-to-back RBI doubles.
The Lions added three more runs in the fifth, going up 9-3, before Jackson State pushed across a pair in its half of the fifth.
Southeastern went up 11-5 with a pair of runs in the eighth, but the Tigers scored three more in the their half of the inning.
Fisher added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, smashing his eighth home run of the season. The two-out, solo blast to right put the Lions up, 12-8.
Reliever
Carlo Graffeo (2-0) earned the win, allowing a pair of runs in two innings of work. Sophomore left-hander
Drew Avans picked up his second save of the season, fanning four in two scoreless innings. Yrigoyen was tagged with the loss.
Southeastern returns to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for a three-game Southland Conference series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Thursday through Saturday.
