Lady Lions Hit Road for Final Time in 2016

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions embark on their final road trip of the 2016 season this weekend as they look to secure a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament.

The Lady Lions (6-8-2, 3-4-1 Southland) visit conference front-runner Central Arkansas (12-3-1, 7-0-1) Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Northwestern State (9-6-0, 6-2-0) on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match. The Lady Demons are tied with Stephen F. Austin (9-4-0, 6-2-0) for the second seed heading into the weekend. (Second-place Abilene Christian (7-7-2, 6-1-1) is ineligible for the postseason while finishing its transition into Division I.).

Southeastern is currently tied for fourth in the tournament race with Nicholls (6-6-1, 3-4-1) and Houston Baptist (5-9-1, 3-4-1). Houston Baptist holds the tie-breaker with Southeastern behind a 2-1 win earlier this season, while the Lady Lions will host Nicholls in the season finale next Friday.

"It's a big weekend for us," Southeastern interim head coach Matt Muia said. "We really want to make sure we get some points out of both games this weekend. Obviously, two tough opponents so this is our biggest road trip of the year and our biggest test of the year. We're really going to find out what our girls are made of this weekend."

Live stats for both games, provided by the host teams, will be accessible on the Southeastern women's soccer schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern is coming off a split of a two-match homestand this past weekend. The Lady Lions blanked Sam Houston 3-0 on Friday before losing 4-0 to Stephen F. Austin on Sunday. Senior Hope Sabadash recorded her fourth shutout of the season and the 28th of her career on Friday behind four saves. She added seven saves against SFA, extending her school career record to 378.

Northwestern State is Southeastern's second-most common opponent. This will be the 34th meeting between the two programs, behind only Stephen F. Austin (37). The Lady Lions lead the series 21-10-2 with the teams playing to a 1-1 tie in Hammond in 2015. Southeastern took a 3-2 double overtime win in Natchitoches in 2014. The Lady Demons' last win came 1-0 at home in 2009.
