HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana football team will hit the road on Saturday, traveling to Nacogdoches, Texas to face Southland Conference foe Stephen F. Austin at 3 p.m. in Homer Bryce Stadium.

Southeastern is coming off its best performance of the 2016 season last Saturday, when the Lions earned a dramatic 31-24 league victory over No. 19/20 McNeese. Senior
Brandon Acker hauled in the game-winning 82-yard touchdown from senior
Justin Alo with eight seconds remaining. Stephen F. Austin will be looking to bounce back from last Saturday's 35-28 double-overtime loss at Nicholls,
"Last week was a huge win for our program," Southeastern head coach
Ron Roberts said. "We are starting to grow as a team. We're still looking for a full, clean four quarters of football and we need to continue our growth against a very talented Stephen F. Austin team on the road."
In the win over the Cowboys, Alo threw for 339 yards – the most by a SLU quarterback during Roberts' tenure – and connected with Acker, senior
Juwaan Rogers and freshman
Bransen Schwebel on touchdown passes. Alo has thrown for 1,018 yards and nine touchdowns thus far this season.
Coming off a career-high 168-yard performance, Acker leads FCS with 25.5 yards per reception. Acker (19 catches, 484 yards, 4 TD) and junior
Juwan Dickey (13-242-2 TD) have provided Alo with two top targets.
The Lion offense has primarily taken a running back by committee approach through the first five games. Senior
Rasheed Harrell (217 yards, 2 TD) leads a quartet of primary runners for SLU that also includes senior
Kaelyn Henderson (170-1 TD), sophomore
Julius Maracalin (166-1 TD) and junior
Darius Durall (50-0 TD).
Alo will led a Lion offense against a SFA defense that is allowing 41.5 pints and 507.8 yards per game. Price Miller (46 tackles) and George Stone (43) are the top tacklers for Stephen F. Austin, while Kedrick Harrison (8.0 TFL, 6.0 sacks) and John Franklin (8.5 TFL, 4.0 sacks) provide the 'Jacks with a formidable pass rush tandem.
SFA is averaging 403.3 yards and 29.2 yards on offense led by senior quarterbacks Zach Conque (1,013 yards, 7 TD, 3 INT, 5 rushing TD) and Hunter Taylor (778-7 TD-1 INT). Justice Liggins (34 catches, 422 yards, 2 TD), Tamrick Pace (25-354-5 TD) and Trae Hart (22-285-1 TD) are the team's top receivers. Joshawa West (279 rushing yards) is the team's primary running back.
The Lion defense will be looking to build on the momentum of its best performance of 2016. Against the Cowboys, the Lions forced McNeese into three turnovers. Senior
Tre' Bennett intercepted a pass, while juniors
Javon Tillman and
Max Lyons each recovered fumbles.
Lyons and junior
Torrance Mosley led SLU with 11 tackles each. Southeastern was also buoyed by the return of junior
Sione Teuhema. Playing for the first time since the opener, the Keller, Texas native finished with 10 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble.
Opponents are averaging 35.0 points and 397.6 yards per game. Lyons leads the team with 41 tackles, followed by Tillman (40), Mosley (36), junior
Ryan Sigers (34) and junior
Lee Spight (31).
Southeastern will be looking for its first win over Stephen F. Austin since 2013. The Lumberjacks, who lead the all-time series, 11-7-1, have won the last two meetings between the two schools and are the only Southland school to beat Southeastern in consecutive years under Roberts. Last season in Hammond, SFA rallied from a 20-0 deficit to earn a 28-27 victory on a Conque touchdown run in the final minute.
Following Saturday's game, Southeastern will play its next two contests at home. Next Saturday, the Lions will welcome Southland foe Houston Baptist for Homecoming with a 4 p.m. contest in Strawberry Stadium. The game can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (KSLU 90.9 FM, Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, WFPR 1400 AM) and LionVision subscribers will be able to access a live video stream of the SLU-HBU contest at
www.LionSports.net/watch.
