LAKE CHARLES – Southeastern Louisiana head coach Ron Roberts, senior wide receiver Jeff Smiley and senior defensive back Harlan Miller will represent the Lion football program at the Southland Conference Football Media Day, which is set for Wednesday at the L'Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles.
 
SLU is coming off its second straight Southland Conference regular season championship and Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoff appearance. The Lions finished 9-4 overall and 7-1 in Southland Conference play in 2014, sharing the league title with Sam Houston State.
 
Roberts is entering his fourth season at the helm of the Southeastern program. He has led the Lions to a 25-13 overall record during his time in Hammond, including a 19-3 record in Southland play.
 
Miller, a native of Kentwood, Louisiana, is one of four All-Southland returners in a Lion secondary that helped Southeastern lead FCS in pass efficiency defense last season. A preseason STATS All-America selection and a member of the FCS Defensive Player of the Year watch list, Miller has intercepted seven passes in the last two years on the way to earning first team All-Southland honors twice.
 
Smiley, who hails from Flower Mound, Texas, led the Lions with seven receiving touchdowns last season and has earned All-Southland Conference honors each of the past two seasons. He enters his final season in Hammond ranked among the school's career leaders in receptions (117, 8^th), receiving yards (1,514, 9^th) and receiving touchdowns (15, 4^th).
 
The SLU contingent will be available to the print media from 10:55 – 11:25 a.m. in Ballrooms D and E. From 11:30 a.m. – noon, Southeastern will film its portion of the Southland TV/ESPN 3 broadcast, which will air at 7 p.m. on ESPN3 at http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_/id/2621791/Southland-Football-Media-Day. The Lions will be available to the local television stations in the Cypress Room from 1:15 – 1:45 p.m.
 
Southeastern will open fall practice on Aug. 3 with a 7 p.m. practice. The season kicks off on Sept. 3, as the Lions will travel to face Northwestern State at 6 p.m. in Natchitoches, opening the season with a conference game for the first time since 1976.
