SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana men's golf team closed out its strongest showing of the spring season on Tuesday, finishing second at the Lone Star Invitational, which wrapped up at the Briggs Ranch Country Club.
Southeastern shot even par on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a score of 18-under par 846. The Lions were only bested my No. 6 Texas Tech, which finished with a 29-under par 835 over 54 holes.
SLU's top finisher was senior
Grady Brame, who finished tied for seventh. The Hammond native carded an even par 72 in the final round to finish six-under par for the tournament. Brame was three shots behind individual medalist Hannes Ronneblad of Texas Tech, who defeated UTSA's Zander Lozano on the second hole of a playoff.
Brame was joined in red numbers by junior
Lawrence Allan (-4, T13th) and sophomore
James Anstiss (-1, T25th). Anstiss matched a tournament record with a 64 in the opening round on Monday, helping SLU set a team tournament mark with a 272 over the first 18 holes.
Despite not being able to keep up the torrid start to the tournament, SLU shot two-under over the final two rounds and were able to hold off UTEP by four strokes for runner-up honors.
Rounding out the SLU lineup was junior
Eamon Bradley (E, T28th) and sophomore
Paul Obermann (+3, T41st). Obermann struggled on Monday, but bounced back with SLU's low round on Tuesday, carding a 69 in the final round.
Southeastern head coach
Tim Baldwin's squad seems to be building momentum heading into the final month of the season. The Lions will close out their pre-conference schedule on April 6-7, competing in the Old Waverly Collegiate Classic in West Point, Mississippi.
