HAMMOND, La. – Fresh off a sweep of the season-opening series against Louisiana Tech, the Southeastern Louisiana baseball team returns to action with a pair of midweek games against Jackson State and Tulane.
Southeastern (3-0) travels to JSU (3-1) for a 4 p.m. game Tuesday at the Jackson State University Baseball Stadium. First pitch has been moved up from the originally scheduled time of 6 p.m.
The Lions will then return home to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for a 6 p.m. game Wednesday against Tulane (2-1). Anyone who purchases a ticket to the Southeastern-Tulane baseball game will receive free admission to the joint women's-men's basketball doubleheader Saturday at the University Center with their baseball ticket stub.
Wednesday's game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Fans can keep up with the Tulane contest through live statistics or both games by following SLUathletics on Twitter. Julian Service (.429),
Ryan Byers (.375) and
Chris Eades (.364) lead Southeastern at the plate.
Daniel Midyett has homered twice while
Kevin Carr and
Jacob Seward have driven in four runs each. Byers has stolen a pair of bases.
The Lions are hitting .222 as team and have been successful on 4-of-5 stolen base attempts. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 1.67 ERA, third-lowest in the Southland Conference, fanning 20 batters in 27 innings pitched.
JSU swept a pair of games from Tennessee-Martin and split a pair of games with Texas-Pan American over the weekend.
Dylan Parker (.545), Melvin Rodriguez (.467) and Tilur Smith (.467) are the Tigers' top hitters so far. Smith and Jovany Felipe have each homered once and driven in seven runs. Gary Thomas has a pair of stolen bases.
The Tigers are hitting .333 as team and have been successful on 4-of-8 stolen base attempts. JSU's pitching staff has compiled a 4.25 ERA, fanning 23 batters in 36 innings pitched.
Tulane took two of three games from Pepperdine this past weekend in Malibu, California.
Stephen Alemais (.455), Lex Kaplan (.455) and Jake Rogers (.417) lead the Green Wave offense. Three different players have homered and Garrett Deschamp leads the squad with four RBIs. Alemais, Kaplan and Rogers each have one stolen base.
The Green Wave are hitting .314 as team and have been successful on 3-of-4 stolen base attempts. Tulane's pitching staff has compiled a 3.08 ERA, fanning 24 batters in 26.1 innings pitched.
Tuesday the Lions will send right-hander
Kyle Keller (3-3, 4.08 in 2014), a senior from New Orleans, Louisiana, to the mound at JSU. Junior left-hander Domenick Carlini (3-3, 2.91 - JUCO) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Wednesday's home games against Tulane right-hander Patrick Duester (3-1, 2.71 - JUCO).
