Lady Lions meet Auburn in home opener

HAMMOND, La. - The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team plays the first of 13 home games in the 2015-16 campaign when it hosts Auburn at 7 p.m. in the University Center on Monday.

The game between the Lady Lions (0-1) and Tigers (1-0) will be Coaches Card Night. The first 150 fans in attendance will receive trading cards featuring Southeastern head coach Yolanda Moore and assistant coaches Levar Willis, Ayriell Robinson and Aja Gibson courtesy of PRIDE.

LionVision subscribers will be able to access a live video stream at LionSports.net, where live stats will be available.

Southeastern will be looking to even its record after losing 97-53 at Arkansas in the season opener on Friday. Senior guard Peaches Anderson scored a career-high 20 points and pulled down six rebounds. Freshman forward Kyle Felton had a team-high seven rebounds in her collegiate debut while senior forward Nanna Pool added eight points.

Southeastern shot 33.9 percent for the game, including 9-of-24 on 3-pointers, but was out-rebounded 59-34 and commited 27 turnovers. Arkansas led 27-10 at the end of the end of the first quarter, 49-25 at the half and 78-40 going into the fourth quarter.

Pool (8.0 ppg, 1 rpg) and junior forward Chey Stewart (4 ppg, 1.0 rpg) are expected to start in the frontcourt for Southeastern on Monday. Joining Anderson (20.0 ppg, 6 rpg) in the backcourt are senior Erica Hernandez (2.0 ppg) and sophomore Taylin Underwood (6 ppg, 5.0 rpg).

Coming off the bench are Felton (2.0 ppg, 7 rpg); junior forwards Gabriella Delaune (2.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg), and Dani Fielder (2 0 ppg, 5.0 rpg); freshman guards Baylie Stears (0.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg) and Jaclyn Scholvin (0.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg) and sophomore guard Bre Warren, (7.0 ppg, 1.0 rpg).

Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy is starting her fourth year with the Tigers.

Auburn returns all five starters and nine letterwinners - including seven of its top eight scorers - from a team that went 13-18 overall and 3-13 in Southeastern Conference play in 2014-15.

Junior guard Brandy Montgomery (12.3 ppg) and senior forward Tra'Cee Tanner (11.7 ppg) were the Tigers' leading scorers last season while Tanner also paced the team with 6.1 rebounds. Junior guards Katie Frerking (7.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg in 2014-15), and and Khady Dieng (4.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg) and sophomore guard Neydja Petithomme (5.5 ppg, 3.2 apg) are also expected to start against the Lady Lions.

Auburn opened the season with an 85-71 win over UAB on Friday. Montgomery scored 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting and freshman guard Janiah McKay added 20 points with seven assists. Tanner had her ninth career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Frerking hit four 3-pointers in finishing with 12 points and three steals.

The Tigers shot 53.1 percent for the game, including 61.1 percent in the second half to overcome a 36-35 halftime deficit. Auburn forced 17 turnovers while committing nine.

This will be the third meeting all-time between Southeastern and Auburn. The Tigers have won the previous two meetings, both in Auburn - 92-55 in game two of the 1997-98 season and 72-44 in the seventh game in 2014-15.

"They didn't shoot the ball very well from the outside but they didn't need to because they had a really good inside game and they had some easy baskets going in for layups and things like that," Moore said of last year's game. "We have to do a better job of guarding on the perimeter and now allow people to just get past our first line of defense so easily. Our post players can get in a lot of trouble if they try to recover and help for the guards who were getting beat on the perimeter."

Southeastern opens a four-game road swing Wednesday at Georgia Tech at 6 p.m.
