Box Score HAMMOND, La. – The top two attacking teams in the Southland Conference lived up to their reputation Sunday afternoon as Southeastern and Northwestern State combined for 29 shots.
Â
But the defenses - with an assist from the heavy rains that were nearly consistent throughout the match – were able to stave off all but two of them as the Lady Lions and Lady Demons played to a 1-1 tie in Strawberry Stadium.
Â
Hope Sabadash made seven saves – her high for a Southland match this season - for Southeastern (10-4-3, 5-3-2). Brooke Bourbonais and Alex Latham had three each for Northwestern State (5-9-4, 2-5-3).
Maggie Ramsey tied the match midway through the second half after Esdeina Gonzalez gave the Lady Demons a 1-0 lead late in the first half.
Â
"I think defensively we did do some nice things," Southeastern head coach
Blake Hornbuckle said. "We closed down players at the right times,
Hope Sabadash again made some quality saves and we were able to sustain some things on set pieces too. They are dangerous on corner kicks, set pieces and free kicks and we did a good job of closing those opportunities down. I thought on the attacking side, we had good opportunities we weren't able to finish."
