Lady Lions visit SLC leader SFA

Southeastern closes out Texas road trip

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Southeastern Lady Lions will look to move closer to the Southland Conference lead when they visit conference front-runner Stephen F. Austin Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Southeastern (9-3-2, 4-2-1 SLC), coming off a 0-0 tie at Sam Houston State Friday night, is currently fourth in the Southland standings, four points behind Stephen F. Austin (6-6-2, 5-0-2 SLC). SFA blanked Nicholls State 4-0 Friday night, its 29th straight conference win.
Sunday's game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
 
"Stephen. F. is always going to be among the elite of the conference," Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle said. "It's going to be a very good game that we are looking forward to participating in."
 
Southeastern junior goalkeeper Hope Sabadash made five saves against Sam Houston Friday in recording her Southland-best seventh shutout. The Lady Lions backline helped her stave off shots 14 shots overall.
 
Despite being shut out for just the third time this season, Southeastern continues to lead the conference in goals (2.64) and assists (2.71) per game. Senior Gisenia Utreras is second in the Southland in goals (10), goals and assists (seven). She is one goal and one assist away from making the Lady Lions' season top 10 in each category.
 
Junior Marisa Rodrigues and sophomore Maggie Ramsey have scored four goals each. Sophomore Ana Zadro has six assists and freshman Sofia Olsson is fourth overall with five.
Southeastern improved its goal against average to .90 and leads the conference with seven shutouts.
 
Madison Hall, Hanna Barker, Amanda Doyle and Breanna Moore scored for Stephen F. Austin in Friday's win. Allyson Smith made her first start in goal but did not face a shot in the first half. Lillie Ehlert came in for the second half and made a save to preserve the shutout, the Ladyjacks' fourth of the season.
 
Doyle leads SFA with six goals while Owens has three. Barker's three assists lead the Ladyjacks. SFA is tied for ninth in the conference with 1.14 goals per game.
Ehlert has played most of the minutes in goal for SFA this season, recording a 1.21 goals against average.
 
Southeastern will return home Friday to play Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. for Senior Day.
