SLU Kicks Off Two Match Homestand

The Lady Lions host reigning Southland Conference champion SFA and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in week two of league play

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team will welcome Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to Strawberry Stadium in week two of Southland Conference play.

Southeastern (2-4-2, 1-0 SLC) will open the week against reigning Southland Conference Champion SFA (3-2-6, 1-0-1 SLC) Thursday at 7 p.m. Thursday's match will mark the 20th contest against the Lumberjacks in program history.

The Lady Lions will end the weekend against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-4-3, 0-0-1 SLC) Sunday at 12 p.m. Sunday's match against the Islanders can be heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion and LionUpRadio.org. Both matches will be televised on ESPN+ and live stats can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

SLU is looking to extend its two-match winning streak after securing a 1-0 victory over UTRGV this past weekend in its road conference opener. Southeastern's defense stepped up the entire match to hold the Vaqueros scoreless and deliver its second shut-out of the season. Senior Emma Ramsey connected in the net in the second half to score the game winner for the Lady Lions as she leads with two goals this season. Goalkeeper Kendall Curran finished with three saves and has handled all the responsibility in the net for SLU, playing 720 minutes so far this season.

Stephen F. Austin finished 1-0-1 last week to begin conference play. The Lumberjacks gained a 4-0 victory over McNeese before claiming a scoreless draw against Northwestern State. SFA has recorded 13 goals this season as five players have posted two goals led by Alexis Miller with two goals, four assists and eight points. The Lumberjacks have launched 143 shots and 62 shots on goal with 27 corner kicks and 13 assists. Stephen F. Austin goalkeepers Sierra Mccluer and Makenna Garcia handle the weight in the net with 56 saves combined and a 1.11 goals against average.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ended the past week tied 0-0 with HCU on the road to begin league play. The Islanders are led by sophomore forward Cilia Leal with three goals and six points. Leal has played in all nine matches this season for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 15 shots, eight shots on goal and two game winners. The Islanders have claimed 12 goals, 122 shots, and 53 shots on goal this season. Hayven Harrison has handled the responsibility in the net for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 33 saves and a 1.44 goals against average.

Sunday's match against the Islanders, fans are encouraged to pack Strawberry Stadium in green and gold to support the Lady Lions with the home-field advantage. Concluding Sunday's match, Southeastern will travel to Natchitoches, La. to face Northwestern State Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
