Box Score 2 HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team dropped a pair of matches, to Hampton and host James Madison, on the final day of the JUM Invitational at Sinclair Gymnasium.
Southeastern (2-5) split the first two sets with James Madison (4-2) before the Dukes rallied for a 25-16, 22-25, 25-13, 25-12 win over the Lady Lions.
Hampton (5-2), behind the efforts of the reigning America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week Vendula Strakova, wrapped up a 25-9, 25-11, 25-15 win in just over an hour.
Southeastern returns to action Thursday at 7 p.m. against host Tulane in the AllState Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic.
Match One – James Madison 3, Southeastern Louisiana 1After falling in the first set, Southeastern built an early lead in the second set. Hitting .342 for the set the Lady Lions fought off the Dukes, pulling away late to even the match at one set apiece.
Parrie Hartley (13 kills, .219 attack percentage),
Tiffany Thomas (10 kills),
Veronica Turk (seven kills, .263 attack percentage) and
Mikayla Shippy (40 assists) paced the Lady Lion attack.
Brooke Balser,
Landry Bullock and
Morgan Todd served up aces to lend a helping hand.
Todd's 14 digs led the defensive effort for Southeastern and
Rachael Bunn had had a hand in five of the Lady Lions' seven team blocks.
Martha Stewart (12 kills), Janey Goodman (10 kills, .409 attack percentage) and Sarah Patterson (49 assists) led James Madison's offensive efforts. The Dukes served up three aces.
Austin Taylor's 20 digs paced three in double-digits for JMU, including MacKenzie Kleespies (13). Patterson added 10 digs for a double-double.
Match Two – Hampton 3, Southeastern Louisiana 0Offensive struggles in the first two sets hampered the Lady Lion attack with Southeastern posting a negative attack percentage for the match.
Hartley led the offensive attack again, recording six kills. Bunn,
Elizabeth Ramee and Todd served up aces for the Lady Lions.
Todd led all players with 15 digs and Southeastern posted seven team blocks.
Strakova led all players with 14 kills. Kitija Megne handed out 28 assists, recording a double-double with a team-best 13 digs for Hampton.
