Lions Host Northwestern State, Wrap Up Regular Season

Series scheduled for Thursday through Saturday

HAMMOND, La. – Having already clinched a spot in the 2014 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament, Southeastern Louisiana wraps up the regular season hosting Northwestern State in a three-game conference series Thursday through Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Game times are 6 p.m. Thursday, 6 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday against the Demons. Southeastern (31-22, 16-11 Southland) trails Northwestern State (30-22, 18-9 Southland) by two games in the conference standings.

Fans will have a chance to enjoy the Raising Cane's Challenge at Thursday's contest. If the Lions score five or more runs in the game, fans presenting their ticket stub (or student coupon), and purchasing a combo at a participating Raising Cane's, will receive a free combo of equal or lesser value (through the following day).

The second game of the series is a $5 Friday at the ballpark. All general admission tickets are $5 and a concession stand special will also be available for $5 during the game. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be on hand selling replicas of the special pink logoed hats the Lions wore during the Geaux Pink game (May 3).

All three games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Fans can keep up with the series through live statistics or by following SLUathletics on Twitter. Links for audio, video, stats and tickets are available on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern took two-of-three from McNeese State this past weekend and the Lions have won each of their last two conference series.

Jameson Fisher (.386), the Southland's leading hitter, as well as Andrew Godbold (.347), Brett Hoffman (.327) and Daniel Midyett (.308) lead Southeastern at the plate. Godbold's seven home runs are a team best and his 46 RBIs lead the conference. Brett Hoffman owns a team-high 16 doubles and his 37 RBIs are second-most on the ballclub. Jacob Williams' 13 stolen bases leads the team.

The Lions are hitting .289 as team and have been successful on 75-of-117 stolen base attempts. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 3.00 ERA, third-lowest in the Southland, fanning 353 batters in 465.2 innings pitched.

Sophomore right-hander Tate Scioneaux (6-5, 3.52) earns the series opening start for the Lions, drawing freshman righty Adam Oller (5-1 2.12) for the Demons. Friday, Northwestern State is slated to start junior righty Josh Oller (3-1, 3.40). Southeastern has not announced a starter for the second game of the series. Neither team has decided on a starting pitcher for the regular season finale.

Chase Daughdrill (.306) and Brett Underwood (.303) lead Northwestern State in batting average. Caleb Dugas' 12 doubles lead the ballclub, while Nathan Lyons has hit a team-high four home runs. Daughdrill is the team RBI leader (37). Underwood has swiped a team-best 17 bases.

The Demons are hitting .264 as a team and have been successful on 63-of-90 stolen base attempts. Northwestern State's pitching staff has compiled a 4.47 ERA, fanning 329 batters in 471 innings pitched. The staff ERA jumped almost half a run following Tuesday's 27-0 loss at the hands of No. 8-ranked LSU.

Northwestern State has won eight of its last nine Southland contests since being swept at home by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (April 17-19).
