Box Score HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team knocked off Tulane, 5-1, Wednesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field and has now taken the first two games in the three-game season series.
After both teams went scoreless through two innings, Southeastern (21-12) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Tulane (14-17) scored an unearned run in the sixth.
Sam Roberson doubled over the head of Tulane right fielder Andrew Garner with one out in the third to jump start the Lion offense.
Andrew Godbold drove him home with a two-out single to right.
In the fourth, Southeastern scored another pair of two-out runs.
Jacob Williams chopped an infield single and then swiped his team-leading 10th stolen base of the season. He scored from second on
Jacob Seward's infield single. Seward then stole second, his first of two steals in the game.
Sam Roberson followed with a single to right, driving in Seward.
Brett Hoffman started the fifth-inning offense with a one-out double down the left-field line. He moved tho third on
Kevin Carr's single, one of three hits in the game by the junior.
Kennon Menard chopped a ball to the shortstop, allowing Hoffman to score. Carr scored when Williams' ground ball scooted under the glove of the Tulane second baseman for an error.
Lion starting pitcher
Kyle Keller (3-2) kept the Green Wave bats in check most of the evening, allowing one unearned run while scattering three hits in seven innings of work, to earn the win. The junior right-hander from New Orleans, La., walked three and fanned seven batters.
Tulane scored its run on a passed ball in the sixth inning and Keller worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the seventh without allowing a run.
Kyle Cedotal tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief and
Dylan Hills retired the final two batters of the game, stranding a pair of inherited runners, to earn his second save of the season. Tulane's Zach Flowers (0-2) was tagged with the loss in his first career start, allowing one run in three innings of work.
Carr (3-for-4), Fisher (2-for-4), Roberson (2-for-5) and Seward (2-for-4) all recorded multi-hit games for the Lions, and every starter in the lineup recorded at least one hit.
Southeastern hosts Incarnate Word in a three-game, Southland Conference series this coming weekend. Game times are slated for 6 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
