HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team faces a stiff test in pair midweek games as the Lions match up against the No. 2-ranked Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Tuesday and Wednesday.
Southeastern (27-17) hosts Louisiana-Lafayette (39-6) Tuesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for Pack the Pat. There will be free food and t-shirts for Southeastern students while supplies last.
Wednesday's contest is slated for M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field in Lafayette, La. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Fans will have a chance to enjoy the Raising Cane's Challenge at Tuesday's contest. If the Lions score five or more runs in the game, fans presenting their ticket stub (or student coupon), and purchasing a combo at a participating Raising Cane's, will receive a free combo of equal or lesser value (through the following day).
Both games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Southeastern has dropped a season-high, four-consecutive games.
Jameson Fisher (.360) and
Andrew Godbold (.329) lead Southeastern at the plate. Godbold's six home runs lead the team and his 40 RBIs are a conference best.
Brett Hoffman owns a team-high 12 doubles and his 27 RBIs are the second-most on the ballclub.
Jacob Williams' 12 stolen bases leads the team.
The Lions are hitting .275 as team and have been successful on 69-of-105 stolen base attempts. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 2.86 ERA, second-lowest in the Southland, fanning 307 batters in 390.2 innings pitched.
Junior right-hander
Kyle Keller (3-2, 3.17) earns the series opening start for the Lions, drawing senior righty Matt Hicks (5-0 1.86) for the Ragin' Cajuns. ULL is tentatively scheduled to give freshman right-hander Reagan Bazar (3-0, 1.80) the first start of his career in Wednesday's contest. Southeastern has not announced a starting pitcher.
Caleb Adams (.390), Jace Conrad (.379) and Seth Harrison (.356) lead ULL, which has seven players hitting over .300, at the plate. Adams leads the squad with six triples and 10 home runs. Harrison owns a team-best 47 RBIs and is second on the club with nine home runs. Conrad has swiped a team-high 15 bases and is second on the squad with 45 RBIs.
The Ragin' Cajuns are hitting .321 as a team, third-highest in the nation, and have been successful on 68-of-98 stolen base attempts. They lead the nation with a .518 slugging percentage. ULL's pitching staff has compiled a 3.25 ERA, fanning 314 batters in 401.1 innings of work.
The Ragin' Cajuns took two-of-three over the weekend from Texas State.
Southeastern returns to action at 6 p.m. Friday against Nicholls State at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
