HUNTSVILLE, Texas – A pair of two-run home runs powered Sam Houston State to a 4-1 Southland Conference win over Southeastern Louisiana Sunday at Don Sanders Stadium. The Bearkats took all three games in the series.

Southeastern (27-17, 12-9 Southland) grabbed an early lead, pushing across the first run of the game just three batters in. Sam Houston (30-14, 13-8 Southland), as they did all weekend, came up with the big hit later in the game.

Leading off the game, Bearkat starting pitcher Sam Odom (8-2) hit Jacob Seward with an 0-2 pitch. Jameson Fisher followed with single a to left-center field, sending Seward around to third base. Andrew Godbold, batting third for just the second time this season, drove a sacrifice fly to right to drive in Seward for the 1-0 lead.

Following a walk to lead off the third inning, Bearkat right fielder Travis Lee reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs, designated hitter Hayden Simerly deposited the ball just over the right-field wall for a two-run homer, his sixth of the season.

Lion starting pitcher Sean Kennel (4-3) worked around runners, keeping Sam Houston off balance through the sixth.

Colt Atwood singled to open the seventh, chasing Kennel in favor of reliever Mason Klotz. After Klotz fanned Simerly for the first out of the inning, Anthony Azar hit the Bearkats second two-run homer of the game. It was his ninth of the season, tying him for the conference lead.

Odom earned the win and Ryan Brinley, who worked a scoreless ninth, picked up his fifth save of the season. Kennel suffered the loss. Seward and Fisher recorded two hits apiece to lead the Lion offense.

Southeastern returns home Tuesday to host the No. 2-ranked Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
