Box Score HAMMOND, La. – Andro Cutura had his scoreless innings streak snapped Friday, but the right-hander locked down the New Orleans bats as Southeastern Louisiana came from behind for a 2-1 win in Southland Conference play at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Southeastern (26-13, 11-6 Southland) maintains a share of first place in the Southland with the victory, having entered the day in a tie atop the conference standings with five other schools.
UNO (10-25, 2-15 Southland) ended Cutura's streak of scoreless innings at 19.2 consecutive with an unearned run in the third. The junior from Pearl River, La., fanned the leadoff hitter, but Zach Reboulet reach on a passed ball by
Jameson Fisher. Following a sacrifice bunt and a single up the middle, he scored on an error by Lion shortstop
Kennon Menard.
Privateer starting pitcher Nick Halliday (2-5) proved to be almost as tough as Cutura, allowing just three hits through his first six innings of work. The trio of hits, however, were bunched together in the fourth as Southeastern scored both of its runs in the inning.
Fisher led off the inning with a single through the right side, moving to second on
Andrew Godbold's line-drive single off the first-base umpire.
Daniel Midyett sacrificed both runners into scoring position before
Brett Hoffman tied the game with an RBI single to center, driving in Fisher.
The throw home from center fielder Mitchell Alexander was late, allowing Hoffman to take second. UNO catcher Jonathan Santana attempted to prevent Hoffman from advancing, but his throw kicked away into the outfield and allowed Godbold to score from third.
Cutura (7-1) tossed his third complete game of the season, earning the win. He scattered five hits and did not walk a batter, fanning eight. The junior has not allowed an earned run in his last 26.1 innings of work, lowering his ERA to 1.74 this season. Halliday suffered the loss, also tossing a complete game, surrendering six hits and fanning two without a walk. He hit three batters.
The series returns to the New Orleans lakefront for Saturday's finale. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Maestri Field at First NBC Ballpark. Sophomore right-hander
Tate Scioneaux (5-3, 3.02) draws the starting nod for Southeastern. The Privateers did not announce a starter.
