Southeastern Travels For Southland Series Against Islanders

Lions set for three games at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana embarks on its first Southland Conference road trip of the season, traveling to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this weekend at Chapman Field.

Southeastern (12-8, 2-1 Southland) faces the Islanders (10-13, 2-1 Southland) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, as well as Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday.

All three games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Fans can keep up with the entire series through live statistics, courtesy A&M-Corpus Christi, or by following SLUathletics on Twitter. Links for audio and stats are available on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern has won three in-a-row following Tuesday's 6-3 victory at Tulane.

Jameson Fisher (.403), Andrew Godbold (.342) and Jacob Williams (.304) lead Southeastern at the plate. Brett Hoffman leads the team with eight doubles and 18 RBIs, while Fisher has driven in 16 and Godbold has one home run to go with 15 RBIs.

The Lions are hitting .274 as team and have been successful on 38-of-56 stolen base attempts, among the most in the nation. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 2.85 ERA, fanning 150 batters in 180 innings pitched.

Junior right-hander Andro Cutura (2-1, 2.06) earns the series opening start for the Lions, drawing junior righty Matt Danton (4-1, 3.31) for the Islanders. Cutura entered the week sixth nationally with 41 strikeouts. Saturday the Lions will send sophomore right-hander Tate Scioneaux (4-0, 1.53) to the mound against AMCC left-hander Trevor Belicek (0-4, 5.28).

Cutura and Scioneaux are two of just 20 pitchers at the Division I level to have turned in quality starts in each of their first five outings this season. UNLV is the only other school to have multiple pitchers toss at least six innings, allowing three or fewer earned runs, in five-consecutive starts.

Junior right-hander Kyle Keller (2-0, 2.83) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Sunday's series finale opposite Islander freshman righty Devin Skapura (2-2, 2.79).

Brandon Tierney (.338) and Jordan Lee (.301) lead AMCC at the plate. Cody Stephens has hit a team-high five doubles while four different players have hit a home run. Kyle Danford leads the team with 18 RBIs.

As a team, the Islanders are hitting .271 and have been successful on 35-of-44 stolen base attempts. AMCC's pitching staff has compiled a 5.12 ERA and fanned 167 batters in 193.1 innings pitched.

The Islanders have won four of their last five games, winning a Southland series against Central Arkansas and sweeping a doubleheader this past Tuesday against Texas-Pan American.

Southeastern returns home this coming Tuesday to host Jackson State at 6 p.m., opening a six-game homestand at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
