HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team continues its eight-game homestand Tuesday and Wednesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field against the No. 12-ranked Ole Miss Rebels.
The series opener against Ole Miss (14-2) is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Southeastern (9-5) will host the Rebels again Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Fans will have a chance to enjoy the Raising Cane's Challenge at both games in the midweek series. If the Lions score five or more runs in either game, fans presenting their ticket stub (or student coupon), and purchasing a combo at a participating Raising Cane's, will receive a free combo of equal or lesser value (through the following day).
Tuesday's game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Southeastern picked up a pair of wins over the weekend against Sacred Heart, knocking off the Pioneers 6-2 Saturday and walking off with a 2-1 win Sunday in the ninth inning.
Jameson Fisher (.442),
Jacob Williams (.315),
Andrew Godbold (.306) and
Brett Hoffman (.302) lead Southeastern at the plate. Hoffman leads the team with eight doubles and 17 RBIs, while Fisher has driven in 14 and Godbold has one home run to go with 11 RBIs.
The Lions enter the week hitting .282 as team and have been successful on 34-of-46 stolen base attempts. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 2.66 ERA, fanning 112 batters in 125 innings pitched.
Senior right-hander
Sean Kennel (1-1, 3.21) earns the series opening start for the Lions, drawing senior lefty Jeremy Massie (0-1, 2.61) for the Rebels. Neither team has announced a starting pitcher for game two of the series.
Ole Miss, which has won three-in-a-row after sweeping a weekend series from Arkansas-Little Rock, is hitting .322 as a team with 11 home runs and 29 stolen bases (34 attempts). The pitching staff has compiled a 1.92 ERA, fanning 137 batters in 150 innings pitched.
Auston Bousfield (.412), Will Allen (.355), Austin Anderson (.349) and Preston Overbey (.345) lead the Rebels at the plate. Allen has produced a team-high six doubles, three home runs and 21 RBIs. Bousfield has swiped team-best seven bases.
