Southeastern Falls at League Leader SFA

Lady Lions (11-4, 4-3 SLC) can't overcome second half surge

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Three second-half goals were too much for Southeastern Louisiana to overcome in a 3-0 loss to Stephen F. Austin in Southland Conference women's soccer action Friday night at the SFA Soccer Field.

Southeastern fell to 11-4 overall and 4-3 in league action. The Ladyjacks remained unbeaten in league play, improving to 11-2-1 overall and 7-0 in Southland competition.

"We played very well in the first half," Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle said. "Maggie Ramsey had a shot sail just high and their goalkeeper made a great save on a shot by Gisenia Utreras. We were also pleased with the efforts of our back line. Things didn't go our way in the second half, but we have to regroup and get ready for Sunday."

The match was scoreless until the 60th minute. Zuri Prince drilled a shot past SLU sophomore Casey Jeanfreau to give SFA the lead for good.

Less than a minute later, the Ladyjacks doubled their lead. Amanda Doyle took a feed from Hailey Hunt to put SFA ahead, 2-0.

Stephen F. Austin closed the scoring in the 69th minute. Christie Hinojosa's corner kick hooked into the net to provide the final 3-0 margin.

Southeastern will be back in action on Sunday, heading to Northwestern State for a 1 p.m. match. Live stats and live video (LionVision subscription required), provided by NSU, will be accessible at LionSports.net.
