Box Score HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team held off a charging Incarnate Word squad Thursday for a 76-72 Southland Conference win at the University Center.
Southeastern (6-8, 1-2 Southland) missed seven free throw attempts inside the final 1:30 and UIW (12-2, 0-1 Southland), which was playing its first Southland contest, shaved eight points off a game-high 12 point lead before succumbing to the Lions.
"I would've like to see us stretch that out to 14 or 16 points," head coach Jim Yarbrough said. "There are some mental dimensions. You don't want to lose your cool, tear a team apart for playing well, but I'm not pleased with how we finished the game."
JaMichael Hawkins led four Lions in double-digit scoring, pumping in 17 points.

Julian Chiera (11) all contributed double-digit points.
Devonte Upson, who added nine points, grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for Southeastern.
Denzel Livingston poured in a game-best 18 points for the Cardinals. Kyle Hittle (15), Sam Burmeister (13) and Anthony Horton (12) all contributed double-digit points to the failed UIW comeback effort. Livingston also led the team in rebounds, hauling in seven.
Southeastern continues its four-game homestand Saturday against conference-newcomer Abilene Christian. Tipoff has been moved up to 2 p.m. and the game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM.
