Lions Fall To UNO

Filmore scores career-high 17 points

Box Score

HAMMOND, La. – The University of New Orleans men's basketball team extended its win streak to three games, all on the road, as Southeastern Louisiana fell to the Privateers, 90-85, Thursday at the University Center.

Twenty-point efforts by JaMichael Hawkins (23) and Antonnio Benton (20), as well as a career-high 17 points from freshman Joshua Filmore, was not enough for the Lions (9-11, 4-5 Southland) to hold off UNO (8-9, 5-4 Southland).

The Privateers led by as much as 10 with 4:10 remaining in the game, but a free throw by Filmore, and layups from Hawkins and Filmore, cut the lead to 80-75. That was as close as Southeastern would get in the final 2:23.

UNO converted 30-of-55 shots from the floor (54.5 percent) and was 25-of-35 from the free throw line.
Southeastern, consistent across both halves, was 29-of-63 (46 percent) from the floor. The Lions were 21-of-27 (77.8 percent) from the charity stripe.

Southeastern was out-rebounded by the Privateers, 34-32. Devonte Upson led the Lions on the boards, hauling in nine rebounds.

Christavious Gill led five Privateers in double-figure scoring with 21 points. Cory Dixon, the conference's leading rebounder, was held to half his season average on the boards, but scored 18 points. Tradarrious McPhearson (15), Isaac Mack (13) and Tevin Broyles (11) also contributed to the UNO offensive output.

UNO has won all eight games in the series. The two teams will face off once again in Southland play, this time on the lakefront, on Feb. 20.

Southeastern plays its next two contests on the road, returning home, Feb. 13, to face McNeese State. Tickets for all home games can be purchased at www.LionSports.net or by calling the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office, located in the Dugas Center for Southeastern Athletics, at (985) 549-LION.
