Southeastern Hosts Pair of Non-Conference Matches

Lady Lions welcome Mississippi State (Friday), Alcorn (Sunday) for 4 p.m. matches

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team will welcome a pair of opponents to the Southeastern Soccer Complex this week.

The Lady Lions (3-1) will open the week's action on Friday, welcoming Mississippi State (2-2) to town, before Alcorn State (0-0) visits on Sunday. Both of this week's matches are at 4 p.m.

Southeastern opened the season with three consecutive victories, defeating Jackson State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Mississippi Valley State. On Sunday, Southern Miss edged the Lady Lions, 1-0, in double overtime to hand Southeastern its first loss of 2013.

Reigning Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Lady Lion senior Kelsey Salcido leads Southeastern with three goals, while sophomore Casey Peacock, freshman Katie Noonan and freshman Amber Lasher have two goals apiece. Salcido, Peacock and freshman Alexsis Cable share the team lead with two assists each.

On the back line, Cable, the reigning Southland Defensive Player of the Week, has combined with senior Shanyce Shaw, junior Chelsea Villaescusa, sophomore Erin Christ and sophomore Maddie Allen to hold opponents to just three goals this season.

Freshman Hope Sabadash (0.78 goals against average) has handled the majority of the work in goal for the Lady Lions. In her lone action, freshman Casey Jeanfreau posted a scoreless second half in a 7-0 win over Mississippi Valley State.

Mississippi State will be looking for its first road win of the season when they visit Hammond. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 3-2 loss at South Alabama and come into Friday's match off a 2-1 loss at Florida Gulf Coast.

Senior Elisabeth Sullivan leads MSU with five goals on the season. Freshman Annebel ten Broeke follows with two goals and leads the team with five assists. Junior CJ Winship (1.60 GAA) and freshman Meara Johnson (1.33 GAA) have split time in net for the Bulldogs.

Southeastern is 0-3 all-time versus Mississippi State, which will be making its first-ever trip to Hammond. Last season, MSU got past the Lady Lions in a 2-1 victory.

Alcorn State will be looking to get off to a good start in 2013, as Sunday will be the Lady Braves' season opener. Southeastern is 5-0 all-time versus ASU and has outscored Alcorn, 40-0, in those five meetings.

Following this week's action, Southeastern will return to the road, traveling to Louisiana-Monroe for a 4 p.m. match on Friday, Sept. 13.
