Box Score 2 HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team swept a pair of matches Friday during the first day of action at the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic.
Southeastern (4-6) defeated Stetson, 25-16, 16-25, 25-23, 25-22, in its first contest of the tournament.
Against Stetson (6-4), three Lady Lions tallied double-digit kills.
Elizabeth Ramee recorded a career-best 16 kills to lead Southeastern while
Tiffany Thomas and
Rachael Bunn added 14 and 13, respectively. The 48 assists by
Mikayla Shippy temporarily set the top mark in her career while
Morgan Todd led the Lady Lions with 25 digs.
Brooke Balser added 10 digs. Both Bunn and Todd's totals were career bests.
Kaley Melville's 11 kills led the Stetson offense with Kayla Weller dishing out 28 assists. Mellville achieved a double-double, chipping in 11 digs, while Michelle Kastner led the way with 14 digs for the Hatters.
Southeastern turned around later in the day to defeat Omaha in four sets as well, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22.
Thomas led the way with a career-best 23 kills while Bunn (12 kills) and Ramee (10 kills) also contributed in double digits. Shippy set a career high for the second-consecutive match as she dished out 54 assists. Todd posted 17 digs to lead Southeastern while Balser again added 10 to aid the defensive effort.
In other action Friday, Stetson defeated Southern, 3-0. Omaha topped Tech, 3-2, and Tech knocked off Southern, 3-0.
Saturday at the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic, Omaha faces Stetson at 9 a.m. while Southeastern clashes with Southern at 11 a.m. Saturday. In the third match, Stetson wraps up tournament play against Tech. Omaha faces Southern at 3 p.m. and then Southeastern closes out the event at 5 p.m. against Tech.
