HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team wraps up a four-game homestand at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, Tuesday at 6 p.m., with a mid-week contest against Jackson State.
It is a Dinner at the Diamond Night for students, with free food while it lasts, and the game is part of the Spring Greek Challenge.
Fans will have a chance to enjoy the Raising Cane's Challenge. If the Lions score five or more runs in either game, fans presenting their ticket stub (or student coupon), and purchasing a combo at a participating Raising Cane's, will receive a free combo of equal or lesser value (through the following day).
The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), on the internet through the Southeastern athletics website, as well as on the KSLU iPhone and TuneIn Radio apps. Live stats, as well as a live video stream through LionVision (subscription required), will be available. Southeastern (22-11) defeated Jackson State (18-15), 7-4, earlier this season in Jackson, Miss. The Lions are coming off a 1-3 week that included a loss at Alabama and dropping a pair of Southland Conference games to Lamar.
Harry Slade (.341),
Ben Hernandez (.314) and
Brett Hoffman (.300) lead Southeastern at the plate.
Jesse Buratt and
Jameson Fisher lead the team with seven doubles while Fisher has also clubbed a pair of home runs. Slade leads the team with 25 runs batted in and nine stolen bases.
Southeastern will send freshman right-hander
Gabe Von Rosenberg to the hill for his collegiate debut. Jackson State has not announced a starting pitcher.
The Tigers are led at the plate by Bryce Taylor (.340), Desmond Russell (.321) and Charles Tilery (.319). Ethan Bright has pounded out a team-best 12 doubles and three home runs. Jose Cruz leads the team with 28 RBIs while Aneko Knowles paces the running game with 18 stolen bases in 20 attempts.
Jackson State swept a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series from Alabama A&M this past week.
Southeastern returns to action Friday at 6:30 p.m. as the Lions make their first ever trip to Tulsa, Okla., for a Southland Conference series with Oral Roberts.
