Lions Living On Tulsa Time This Weekend

Southeastern travels to face Oral Roberts for first time

TULSA, Okla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team faces Oral Roberts Friday in the opener of a three-game, Southland Conference series.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at J.L. Johnson Stadium. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the diamond.

Southeastern (23-11, 7-2 Southland) enters the weekend in a first-place tie with Sam Houston State in the conference standings.

Harry Slade (.331), Brett Hoffman (.321) and Ben Hernandez (.315) lead Southeastern at the plate. Jesse Buratt and Jameson Fisher lead the team with eight doubles while Fisher and Aaron Haag have clubbed a pair of home runs. Haag leads the team with 26 runs batted in and Slade has swiped a team-best nine stolen bases.

Southeastern will send junior right-hander Sean Kennel (4-1, 2.79) to the hill against Golden Eagle right-hander Alex Gonzales (3-4, 2.39) in the opener. Saturday, Lion freshman right-hander Tate Scioneaux (4-0, 3.14) draws senior right-hander Drew Bowen (1-3, 3.77) at 2 p.m. Southeastern has not announced a starting pitcher for the 1 p.m. series finale. Senior right-hander Tim Zufall (3-0, 2.92) takes the starting nod Sunday for Oral Roberts.

Nate Goro (.282), Logan Domenico (.276) and Matt Brandy (.255) lead Oral Roberts at the plate. Jose Trevino and Chris Williams lead the team with five doubles and three home runs each. Domenico, Brandy and Tyler Boss have all driven in a team-best 16 runs while Boss and Domenico each have four stolen bases.

The Lions are coming off a 13-1 victory over Jackson State while Oral Roberts has dropped its last five games, including a 4-2 loss this past Tuesday to Oklahoma State.

Southeastern returns to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field to face New Orleans Tuesday at 6 p.m. It is the final mid-week, home game of the season.
