Southeastern Travels To No. 22-ranked Crimson Tide, South Alabama

Lions to spend mid-week on the road

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – With classes out for Spring Break, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team heads to the state of Alabama for a pair of mid-week contests.

Southeastern (21-8) faces No. 22-ranked Alabama (18-11) at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium and then travels to Mobile, Ala., Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. matchup with South Alabama.

Both games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), on the internet through the Southeastern athletics website, as well as on the KSLU iPhone and TuneIn Radio apps. The Lions are coming off their second-consecutive Southland Conference sweep after winning a series against Nicholls State for the first time since 2010. Southeastern has started 6-0 in conference play for the first time in school history.

Harry Slade (.349), Brett Hoffman (.328) and Ben Hernandez (.327) lead Southeastern at the plate. Jesse Buratt leads the team with seven doubles while freshman catcher Jameson Fisher has clubbed a pair of home run. Slade leads the team with 24 runs batted in and  nine stolen bases.

Southeastern will send freshman left-hander Kyle Cedotal (4-3, 4.34) to the hill against Crimson Tide right-hander Tucker Hawley (4-2, 2.75) Tuesday. Cedotal has earned wins in each of his last two outings, both in long relief.

Alabama is led at the plate by Ben Moore. The sophomore has a team-best .317 batting average, six doubles, two triples and home runs, as well as nine stolen bases. He and Kyle Overstreet's 20 runs batted in are second to Brett Booth's 21 RBIs.

The Crimson Tide has split their last four games, dropping a mid-week contest against UAB this past Wednesday in Hoover, Ala., and then taking two of three games in a Southeastern Conference series at Auburn.

Wednesday, Lion senior right-hander Kaleb Manuel (2-2 5.24) draws the starting assignment against South Alabama (22-7). The Jaguars host No. 17-ranked Mississippi State Tuesday evening at Stanky Field.

South Alabama was swept in a three-game, Sun Belt Conference series this past weekend at Florida Atlantic.
