OXFORD, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team dropped its second-straight game at Ole Miss Wednesday, 6-2.

Southeastern (8-4) surrendered five runs in the first inning and spent the rest of the game trying to claw back against the Rebels (13-1).

Ole Miss chased Lion starting pitcher Kaleb Manuel (0-1) in the first inning. After retiring the first batter on a grounder, the Rebels scratched out a pair of singles. With runners at first and second, Manuel was called for a balk. Cleanup hitter Stuart Turner followed with an RBI single, putting runners on the corners.

An infield error and a single sent coach Jay Artigues digging into his bullpen. Jason Greenleaf was greeted by a run-scoring single, and double, before he was able to close out the inning. The right-hander settled in, allowing one unearned run in three innings of relief work.

The Rebels scored the unearned run in the fourth. Freshman left-hander Brennan Catalano came on for the Lions, stranding a pair of runners in the inning, to toss 3.2 scoreless innings in relief.

Southeastern pushed across runs in the fifth and sixth.

Fifth-inning singles by Kyle Cedotal and Brett Hoffman put runners on the corners. Corey Bryan, pinch-running for Cedotal, scored on a Harry Slade sacrifice fly.

In the sixth, first baseman Tanner Rainey drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a groundout. He came around to score on an Alex Marse single to right.

John Gremillion worked a scoreless eighth for the Lions, holding the deficit to four. Southeastern loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, but could not muster another run.

Ole Miss starter Brady Bramlett (2-0) picked up the win and Tanner Bailey recorded the final out of the game for his second save. Manuel suffered the loss.

Southeastern travels to Troy, Ala., this weekend for three games. The Lions will play Hartford Saturday at 1 p.m., and again Sunday at 10 a.m., before facing host Troy Sunday at 2 p.m.
