Box Score HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team broke out the bats early and often Sunday as the Lions pounded Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 17-1, to complete the series sweep at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Southeastern (14-6) scored 10 runs combined in the second and third innings, taking an 11-0 lead before UAPB (5-14) advanced a runner past first base. The Lions scored one in the first, four in the second and six in the third to take a commanding lead. SLU sent nine batters to the plate in the second and batted around in the third.
Sophomore
Tanner Rainey, a native of Covington, La., enjoyed a career day in his first collegiate start. The designated hitter went 3-for-5 at the plate with a single, double and two-run home run, the first of his career.

Kyle Cedotal each had a pair of hits for the Lions.
Six different players scored multiple runs, including
Ladd Rhodes who scored three before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the fourth. Cedotal,
Jameson Fisher,
Jesse Buratt,
Alex Marse, and
Brett Hoffman each scored a pair of runs.
Hernandez led all players with three runs batted in while Rhodes,
Harry Slade, and Rainey each drove in a pair.
Southeastern received scoreless relief outings from
John Gremillion (two innings) and
Brennan Catalano (one inning) as the Lions used 20 different players in the game.
The Lions scored 17 runs in a game for the first time since a 17-3 win April 13, 2010, at home against Alcorn State. Southeastern starting pitcher
Jordan Hymel (2-2) earned the win with five scoreless innings of work while UAPB starter Jim Ploeger (1-3) was saddled with the loss.
Southeastern returns to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. against South Alabama (17-4). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
The university's office of human resources and the Southeastern Alumni Association are co-sponsoring Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night during Tuesday's contest. University faculty and staff, as well as their family members, can purchase special $1 game tickets and are welcome to stop by a free tailgate party.
