Sebastian, Roberson Earn CFPA National Honors

Lions named nation's best at their positions

HAMMOND – After completing the best season ever by a Southeastern Louisiana player at their positions, Lion senior Seth Sebastian and sophomore Xavier Roberson were honored by College Football Performance Awards, CFPA announced on Monday.

Sebastian, a Lafayette native, was named the National Football Championship Subdivision Place-Kicker of the Year, while Roberson, who hails from Atlanta, was selected the FCS Kick Returner of the Year.

Sebastian, a first team All-Southland Conference selection was 16-for-18 on field goals and 66-of-67 on point after touchdowns, setting single season records for PAT's made, PAT's attempted, points (114) and field goal percentage (88.9). The four-year starter finished his career as the school's leader with 289 career points.

The goal of the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferment in college football. CFPA recognizes weekly, annual, and multi-season (career) award recipients – selected based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

Roberson, an Atlanta native, took the top specialist honors after finishing as the national leader with 35.2 yards per kickoff return and three kickoff return touchdowns - a single-season Southland Conference record. Roberson has already set the league career record with five kickoff return touchdowns in his first two seasons.

After an extensive review of the existing data, literature, and evidence, it was determined that Sebastian finished the 2013 season with the strongest placekicker performance in Division I FCS college football. The full list of FCS Awards will be announced on January 8.
