HAMMOND, La. – After helping Southeastern Louisiana University to a 34-31 Southland Conference win over No. 8/10 Lamar, Lion kicker Drew Talley was named the SLC Special Teams Player of the Week in an announcement from the league office Monday.
 
Talley is the third SLU player to be recognized by the Southland this fall. Dkhai Joseph (Sept. 21, Special Teams) and Chad Elzy Jr. (Sept. 28, Offensive) previously earned SLC weekly accolades last month.
 
Talley was 2-for-2 on field goals, connecting on tries of 37 and 39 yards in the fourth quarter to help the Lions hold off the Cardinals for their first win over a ranked opponent since 2022. Talley also was a perfect 4-for-4 on PATs, improving to 25-for-25 on extra-point tries.
 
Lamar was the first of two straight nationally-ranked Southland opponents on Southeastern's October schedule. The Lions will take on No. 3 SFA next Saturday at 5 p.m. in Nacogdoches, Texas. The matchup with the Lumberjacks will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 97.7 FM)/WFPR 1400 AM).
