Southeastern Soccer Set for Southland Conference Tournament

Lady Lions face UCA on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team will compete in the Southland Conference Tournament, which opens Thursday at Cowgirl Field on the McNeese State campus.

Southeastern (13-3-3) is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will face sixth seeded Central Arkansas (9-9-2) in the first round on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Should the Lady Lions get past UCA, they will advance to face Oral Roberts on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals. Sunday's championship match is set for 1:05 p.m. with the winner earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

A live stream and live stats, provided by the Southland Conference Digital Network, for the first two rounds will be accessible at LionSports.net. The finals will air on ESPN3.com.

Southeastern will be making its eighth consecutive trip to the Southland Conference Tournament. The Lady Lions previously won tournament titles in 1998 and 2009.

Southeastern finished the regular season with 39 goals scored. First team All-Southland senior Kelsey Salcido, honorable mention all-conference freshman Brianna Singh and sophomore Casey Peacock share the team lead with seven goals apiece.

Salcido also leads the team and shares the Southland lead with eight assists. First team All-Southland junior Chelsea Villaescusa follows with five assists, while Peacock has four assists.

Villaescusa, second team All-Southland senior Shanyce Shaw, second team all-conference sophomore Erin Christ and freshman Alexsis Cable make up a Lady Lion back line that has allowed just 10 goals and recorded 10 shutouts. Freshman Hope Sabadash, the Southland Freshman of the Year and first team all-conference choice, has been dominant in the net, leading the league with eight shutouts and a 0.52 goals against average.

Central Arkansas will be making its first appearance in the Southland Conference Tournament. Senior Adriana Lucar, a first team All-Southland forward, leads the Bears with nine goals and four assists. Senior Lyndzey Goff (1.53 GAA) and freshman Kaitlyn Keith (1.50 GAA) have shared time in goal for UCA.

The Lady Lions are 7-1 all-time versus UCA and have won their last six meetings with the Bears. Back on Oct. 11, goals by Christ and sophomore Kayla Vera pushed the Lady Lions to a 2-1 victory in Conway, Ark.
