HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team embarks on a three-match road swing this week beginning with Tuesday's 7 p.m. Southland Conference contest at the University of New Orleans.
Southeastern (6-14, 0-8 Southland) travels to conference-newcomer New Orleans (3-18, 0-8 Southland) for the first of two matchups this season. Matches, Thursday at 7 p.m., at Lamar and, Saturday at 2 p.m., at Sam Houston State wrap up the trip.
The Lady Lion offense is led by
Tiffany Thomas (3.04 kills per set),
Rachael Bunn (.321 attack percentage) and
Mikayla Shippy (9.26 assists per set). Bunn is fourth in the Southland in attack percentage while Shippy is sixth in assists.
Veronica Turk (0.95 blocks per set),
Landry Bullock (0.88 b/set), Bunn (0.79 b/set),
Shelby Devlin (0.75 b/set) and
Morgan Todd (4.30 digs per set) lead one of the best defenses in the Southland. Southeastern is third in the conference in blocks (2.06/set) and fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.180). Todd is sixth in digs.
Marti Richmiller (2.05 k/set), Cara Sander (1.77 k/set) and Celeste Ramirez (5.14 a/set) pace the Privateer offense. Lauren Levy leads UNO with 3.62 digs per set.
Both teams head into Tuesday's contest searching for their first conference victory of 2013.
Lamar (6-14, 4-4 Southland) is led by Sierra Whitaker (3.48 k/set), Courtney Moore (2.39 k/set), Alexa Johnson (8.48 a/set) and Megan Schwartz (3.83 d/set). The Cardinals are sixth in the conference with an average of 1.98 blocks per set.
Sam Houston (10-7, 7-1 Southland) features one of the Southland's top offensive players in Deveney Wells-Gibson (4.36 k/set). Setter Tayler Gray (10.42 a/set) and freshman Breanna Homer (4.20 d/set), a converted outside hitter, also help lead the Bearkats.
Southeastern returns home Oct. 24, opening a six-match homestand, with a conference contest against Abilene Christian.
