CONWAY, Ark. – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore
Erin Christ scored her second game-winning goal in as many matches, as the Lady Lion soccer team picked up a key 2-1 Southland Conference road victory over Central Arkansas Friday night at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.
The Lady Lions (10-2-1, 5-1 Southland) remained in a three-way tie atop the Southland Conference standings with Stephen F. Austin and Oral Roberts. With the victory, Southeastern also secured its eighth consecutive season of double-digit victories. Central Arkansas fell to 6-5-2 overall and 3-2 in Southland Conference play.

Kayla Vera both found the net for Southeastern, while sophomore
Chelsea Villaescusa was credited with her fourth assist of the season. Freshman goalkeeper
Hope Sabadash helped Southeastern hold on to the lead, finishing with five saves.
"This was a very good road win against a talented Central Arkansas team," Southeastern head coach
Blake Hornbuckle said. "We did a nice job creating opportunities throughout the match and we were just a couple of near misses from really opening up the match.
"Kayla was fantastic up top today for us on both sides of the ball," Hornbuckle added. "
Kelsey Salcido continues to be our engine in the midfield and was a consistent ball winner today. We were very pleased with the efforts of
Casey Peacock, who was a strong presence. The back line of Erin, Chelsea,
Shanyce Shaw and
Alexsis Cable was solid and we were also pleased with the play of
Cheyenne Maxwell. Hope also continues to be rock solid in goal."
Vera gave Southeastern the initial lead in the 12
th minute. The speedy Vancouver, Wash. native dribbled along the goal line through the UCA defense and tucked a shot inside the far post past UCA senior goalkeeper Lyndzey Goff to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead.
Central Arkansas was able to knot the score with under six minutes left in the first half. Freshman Kate Koch netted a goal from the right side off a corner from sophomore Marisela Chavez to send the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
Christ put Southeastern up for good in the 50
th minute. The Irvine, Calif. product headed in a corner by Villaescusa to take a 2-1 advantage.
Sabadash and the Lady Lion defense were able to make the lead stand. UCA went on the attack in the final minutes, but the Mississauga, Ontario, Canada native was able to hold firm to secure the team's key road victory.
Southeastern will face the two teams its tied atop the league standings with over the next two matches. On Sunday, the Lady Lions travel to Tulsa, Okla. to face Oral Roberts at 1 p.m. Live stats and live video (ORU subscription required), provided by ORU, will be accessible at LionSports.net.
