HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana pitchers walked 11 batters Friday and Central Arkansas rallied twice to defeat the Lions, 8-4.
UCA trailed 2-0 entering the fifth, but chased Lion starter
Jordan Hymel from the game before he could finish the inning. The Bears drew a walk to force in a run and then right fielder Forrestt Allday doubled to left to give UCA a 3-2 lead.
The Lions (22-10, 8-6 Southland) answered with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Michael Rutland drew his third leadoff walk of the series and moved to second when
Brock Hebert was hit by a pitch.
Jonathan Pace dropped a sacrifice bunt between the mound and third base that the Bears kicked.
With the bases loaded and no outs,
Cody Gougler singled to right to drive in Rutland and tie the game.
Harry Slade reached on a fielder's choice and Hebert scored as the Lions regained the lead, 4-3.
Southeastern's lead would be short lived as the Bears (12-15, 6-8 Southland) batted around in the sixth inning, scoring five runs for an 8-4 lead.
The two teams combined for just 10 hits, but four Lion pitchers combined to walk 11 batters and strikeout eight.
Dylan Hills (4-2) took the loss for Southeastern while UCA starter Caleb McClanahan improved his record to 3-2 with the win.
First pitch for the series finale and rubber match of the three-game conference series is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. In-game promotions include Baseball Bingo and the Cane's Challenge.
Sophomore right-hander
Jason Greenleaf (2-0, 0.34) will get his first college start and will oppose UCA right-hander Ryan Angus (2-3, 6.32).
