FINAL RESULTS (PDF)

SPRINGFIELD – Southeastern Louisiana's Philipp Westermann fired a 1-under par 71 to claim his school-record tying fourth individual tournament championship and the Lions' golf team battled through windy conditions to finish second overall at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate that concluded Tuesday at Carter Plantation.

Southeastern, which was looking for its first team championship since claiming the 2010 Southland Conference title on its home course, battled the 20-30 mile per hour winds and fired a team score of 306 to finish at 883 for the 54-hole event – four shots behind first-day co-leader Central Arkansas.

UCA (879) and Southeastern were joined in the top five by Jacksonville State (889), Stephen F. Austin (896) and Arkansas-Little Rock (911). Louisiana-Monroe (917), Oakland (925), Jackson State (942), McNeese State (946) and Nicholls State (946) rounded out the 10-team field.

Westermann, who tied former Lion Cedric Scotto with his fourth career victory, earned medalist honors for the first time since claiming the Jim West Invitational on April 10-12, 2011. The German native, who was the lone player in the field to score below par in each round, finished at 7-under 209 (70-68-71) for the tournament and was three shots ahead of second-place finisher Alfred Kerstis of Arkansas-Little Rock.

Southeastern's Santiago Mejia struggled on the final day after recording rounds of 72 and 69 on Monday. The freshman fired an 83 to finish 13th overall at 224 with Rhys West (76-75-76) finishing tied for 18th at 227, Daniel Zuluaga (72-77-79) 20th at 228 and freshman Grady Brame (74-80-80) tied for 33rd at 234.

Freshman Baptiste Courtachon, one of three Lions competing as individuals, finished tied for 14th at 226 (73-76-77) while freshman Charlie Sault finished 46th (79-79-83-241) and Sebastian Garcia was 54th (86-82-86-254).

Southeastern will return to action beginning Monday when it competes in the UALR First Tee Collegiate Classic at Chenal Country Club.
