DENTON, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team plays its second of three consecutive games on the road when the Lions face Sun Belt Conference opponent North Texas on Sunday at the Super Pit.
Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.
Southeastern (1-6), which opened its three-game road trip with a 68-61 overtime loss last Monday at Louisiana-Monroe, look to snap a three-game losing streak before heading to face nationally-ranked Florida on Wednesday.
Jeffery Ricard, coming off a season-high 24-point effort against ULM, leads Southeastern in scoring at 10.7 points per game. The Plaquemine native went 9-for-16 from the floor and 2-for-4 from behind the 3-point line in a season-high 26 minutes against the Warhawks.
Brandon Fortenberry is next in scoring for the Lions averaging 10.4 points per game. The fifth-year senior scored 12 points against ULM and moved to within 33 points of becoming the 17th player in school history to record 1,000 career points.
Roosevelt Johnson is next in scoring for the Lions, averaging 9.0 points while grabbing a team-high 7.3 rebounds.
Dre Evans, a Dallas, Texas native, averages 8.1 points followed by
Antonnio Benton (6.0),
Onochie Ochie (5.4),
Jeremy Campbell (4.7) and
Todd Nelson (4.4).
UNT (4-6) returns to action after an 83-65 victory over Jackson State on Dec. 8, which snapped a four-game losing streak. Before its victory, UNT had dropped contests to Virginia, UT Arlington, Louisiana-Lafayette and St. Louis.
Pre-season All-America candidate Tony Mitchell leads the Mean Green in scoring (14.2 points), rebounds (8.5) and blocked shots (25). The 6-foot-8 sophomore notched his 13th career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds against Jackson State and helped UNT overcome a one-point deficit at the half.
Chris Jones (12.1 ppg.), Jordan Williams (10.6) and Alzee Williams (10.2) are next in scoring for the Mean Green, who average 70.3 points per game while allowing 68.7.
